Rajputana Rifles: India’s Oldest Rifle Regiment

Introduction

The Rajputana Rifles is India’s oldest rifle regiment, which was raised in the 18th century. The Rajputana Rifles’ history dates back to 1775 when the 5th Battalion Bombay Sepoys was created by the British East India Company. • Kargil War 1999: The regiment played a key role in the capture of Tololing and Tiger Hill, two operations most strategically crucial in the war.

• UN Peacekeeping Missions: The regiment has also been involved in international peacekeeping missions in other war-stricken areas.
