FSB NOIDA (5–9 May 2025): 10 Recommended out of 60 – Here’s What Happened

The recent SSB at FSB NOIDA held from 5th to 9th May 2025 saw a batch of 60 candidates screened in, with 10 ultimately recommended — including 4 from the PR (Permanent Role), 5 repeaters, and 1 fresher. The selection process was rigorous, insightful, and intellectually demanding, truly testing each candidate’s psychological and leadership potential.

TAT Stories that Tested Perception and Originality

The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) presented pictures that encouraged introspection and situational analysis. Candidates were required to think quickly and write meaningful, action-oriented stories based on images like:

  1. A boy playing with a toy tank and his father’s photo on the wall
  2. A boy walking tensely behind another boy
  3. A man with a knife overpowering an old man
  4. A cannon placed openly as a boy walks toward it
  5. Three men outside an old monument
  6. A man with a briefcase on a table
  7. A boy running with something in his hand
  8. Two boys sitting on a tree
  9. An NCC camp scene with visible panic and a cadet stepping forward
  10. A car and tonga accident

These images assessed the candidates’ ability to infer challenges, take initiative, and display maturity in their actions through the protagonist.

WAT: Simple Words, Deep Reflections

The Word Association Test (WAT) featured basic, easy-to-understand words like:

  • Wife
  • Girl
  • Moon
  • Things
  • Interpret

Though simple, the psychological challenge was to form positive, meaningful, and time-bound sentences that reflect clarity of thought and personality traits under pressure.

Group Discussions: Real-World Thinking Under Scrutiny

GD 1: “Pahalgam Attack – What Should India Do?”
Topics of discussion included:

  • Economic retaliation against Pakistan
  • Conducting precise military operations
  • Taking diplomatic stands on international platforms

GD 2: “Rising Suicides in Kota – Who Is Responsible?”
The group reflected on causes like:

  • Intense parental and peer pressure
  • Absence of counseling or extracurricular exposure
  • Illusion of success without understanding real challenges

Both GDs tested the candidates’ maturity, problem-solving ability, and group behavior.

Lecturette Topics: Voice of Leadership

Each candidate delivered a short speech on one of several topics, which included:

  • Covid Warriors – The Real Heroes
  • Best Moment of My Life
  • Contribution of Small States in India
  • Electric Vehicles
  • Global Warming
  • Digital Privacy
  • Mental Health in Covid
  • Discoveries That Changed the World
  • Inflation
  • BPO
  • Transparency in Media
  • Nanotechnology

Confidence, articulation, and logical flow were key differentiators during this round.

Personal Interview: Depth over Delivery

The Personal Interview was highly technical for those from science/engineering backgrounds. Sample areas covered:

  • Communication Systems (e.g., RADARs, Antennas)
  • Aircraft comparisons: Dornier vs. P-8i
→ P-8i used in Anti-Submarine Warfare and Maritime Reconnaissance, while Dornier is limited to MR
  • UV vs. IR rays
  • Concepts of SONAR and RADAR
  • Electromagnetic Waves & Spectrum
  • Satellite Communication
  • Navy vs. Coast Guard Roles

Further, classic SSB questions based on hobbies, life goals, previous SSB attempts, and situational IQ-based challenges were also asked.

Conference: Final Glance at the Personality

Candidates were asked reflective and evaluative questions such as:

  1. Two things you’ve done for your cousins
  2. Two things you’ve done for your parents
  3. How this board differed from previous SSBs
  4. Feedback or suggestions for improvement in the stay or process

The conference aimed to see how self-aware, responsible, and observant the candidates were.

Result: 10 Recommended Candidates

At the end of five days, 10 deserving candidates were recommended, including:

  • 4 PR entries
  • 5 Repeaters
  • 1 Fresher

This result reinforces the fact that SSB is not about past failures or first-time luck — it’s about presenting your genuine, prepared, and evolved self.
